I was out back running some paint thru my bbt and it was shooting fine. Half a loader later mid-shooting it stopped and simutaniously locked up and vented everything out the end of the barrel. tank pressure was output @ 450 and hpr was below 200. did the lpr fail or did I blow the noid? It was just rebuilt and had a new valve/ cup seal the works. so WTF? any help would be great

Sounds like the Low Pressure (AOC or LPR depending on your setup) fell off (below 40 psi) and it didn't have enough pressure to reset the noid, therefore making the the ram stay forward.
Hmmm I think.

You mean pressure drop off? or actually came apart? I have a sonic lpr installed, should I try an increase?

He means pressure drop off. I had a Twister that would do that if I shot it too fast. If I remember correctly, I turned the dwell up and it all but eliminated the problem.

LP got too low.
I don't know what type of LP your running so I can't diagnose anymore than that.

speaking of lprs Edwin, what do you set yours at when shipping? I installed your lprc and hooked up a dye hyper-2 inline reg (shipped @ around 175) and everything worked fine. I was adjusting hyper-2 and air did the same thing just ran put of the barrel until I turned it up so far. Just asking until I can get a gauge on it.
LP got too low.

I've seen this dozens of times over the last several years, it's very common. Hell, my oldest son had it happen during a tournament while he was on the 45. Good thing Brian and I (the backmen) had already moved up to our 20. I ran the rest of the way up and was able to fix it by turning it off & then back on again (air input).
What happens is when the air source (tank) psi starts getting low and the HPR is set low the recharge rate and pressure start dropping. It's like Edwin & Kevin are saying..... the lp that drives the ram just gets too low and everything locks forward allowing the air to vent.
Here are things that I found that will solve that problem:
~ set your lp psi to 115 or higher. on markers that experienced this prob I would usually set at 120-125 just to make sure..... but definately do not go below 115.
~ tank output... I've never like to run anything lower than 550, even then I prefer a 3:1 (or better) ratio. If the HPR is set @ 200 then I will not set my tank below 600psi. Of course if you use a preset then your at 800-850 which is just fine.
~ don't use a stock Tribal HPR. yes, some may work as well as a gladiator when rebuilt but the majority don't. GET ANOTHER HPR with a decent recharge rate.... the one that is the least expensive and has a very good recharge rate is the old WGP cocker reg. No external adjustment but for 10-15 bux it kicks fuckin' ass. The Ergo is another excellent choice for a reg that is decent in price. Of course the SideWinders and Gladiators do a nice job too......

Pulled the thing apart after process of elimination, ruling everything else out. Took out the valve (my brand new rocket valve) the shaft for the cup seal was bent and woulndnt slide through the valve body without binding up. This thing lasted less then 100 rounds before crapping out on me. I put the stock valve back in, reassembled it and it fired right up with no problems what so ever.

I wonder if that is a common problem since I am in the market for a rocket valve for my Mephy as soon as I can afford it! Let us know what maddman says.
