View Full Version : A Tribal in the age of BPS

So basically what I'm wondering is I'm looking to start some sort of Tribal project, but I want it to be more or less "modernized."

Since I've been mainly doing tournament play, I hate to admit it, but speed matters. (And since working at the field we're sponsored by means we play free, I don't mind anymore).

I'm curious to see how fast I can actually get a Tribal going. I've been reading up and I know I'll need a new board - and of course eyes. But the part I don't know much about is the mechanics. Are there any real speed inhibitions inherently in the mechanical design of it? Is there any thing to really keep it from giving my VLocity a decent challenge? From what I've seen I'd need a lighter bolt, and maybe a modification to the ram?

I'm obviously new to Tribals, but I work as a tech (and ref) at the local shop so I've got a basic idea of what I'll need. I just want to get some ideas going around untill I actually get my hands on something.

Didn't blue do tests saying they were limited by the noid at like a full 23cps?

either way we can safely determin 20bps.

And dm6's etc. can only do 20-25 with new boards because of solenoid.

So to respond to the original question bps is not a issue. Most tournament leagues are 15 bps, or uncapped semi, and no one can pull over 18bps in semi. So your good, dont worry about it

Yeah. Once you pass 15, I really don't care after that. Most of the time I play capped anyhow. I just wanted to make sure that it was just the stock board that had the 13bps cap and not something with the mechanics.

A tribal can be made to shoot as fast if not faster than most of the new toys out there. I have warped doing some pretty heavy work to mine that should make it scream, including replacing the noid with a newer faster model.

Damn. That's a bit what I had in mind (which of course now I just feel like a copycat). I've got a ton of ideas bouncing around in my head about the possibilities...

The last Twister I had I set it to max. turbo and outran my Halo without even trying. So yes, the mechanics will keep up, it's just the electronics are capped around 13bps (except in turbo mode.)

That's what I've never understood about the current trend in paintball: all the electroflingers on the market perform roughly the same (to the extent of whatever hopper system they hav on their marker), it's merely size and outward appearance that are the major differences between anything on the market. You can take an almost decade old Tribal and put eyes and a better board in it, and you'll be able to keep up with everything else out there. Why should I fork over more than a thou every year for something that merely looks better (and that's questionable in some cases) than gear I've already got?
