View Full Version : BBT 2.2 overhaul, slated for this summer

Yeah, so I have my BBT, first Tribal, but it feels a little large to me. I'm a mere 140lbs. And the ano is worn, and the board recently lost a connection and a few more look ready to pull, so...

I'm giving it an overhaul. I decided to half-mill it, and already have the cut modeled in Autodesk Inventor. Starting right above the backplate, going in an inch, then dropping down to the halfway point of the nice ball-mill cut in the side, followed until just before the bolt pin slot. Diagonal from here up to the top of the slot. Quick cut, should be easy enough for me to do on a 3-axis CNC this summer with a .5" end mill. Best part is, it takes off around 5 ounces, and makes it a lil unique.

I'm gonna grab Edwin's teflon bolt, and mill the back end a bit with some ridges, sorta like an Ego bolt.

I'm redoing the board as well... I might grab something really nice, like a Chaos board or something, but for now I'm looking to work with the stock board since money's tight. I'm removing all the charger elements since I use 9vs only, then making a custom backplate. It's going to be milled with a raised Tiki God face on it, or something similar, with a 2-color LED in the "mouth", green for on and safe, red for live.

The switches are both going to be in the trigger frame, with the on/off and safety on opposite sides, right above the trigger. Might be a tight squeeze, but I'll find something. If all else fails, I'll move the power switch to the back of the frame.

To round it all out, I'm throwing an LPRC on it, a 2-liter reg, and the Thorn drop I've got. A CCM No-pro neck, too.

Finally, the anodizing. Probably all dust black, but with a red trigger, and inscribed in an appropriate "Tribal" script on the sides, "Angel Killer".

Sounds pretty cool, bud, post some pics when you get a chance.

How would one upload a picture? Is this how? (Please work... I hate computer code sometimes..)

Well, got lucky and got that uploaded on the first try.

Now I gotta figure out how to "tattoo" the sides of the model with an image, namely the Angel Killer text, and maybe the silhouettes of a half dozen A4s up by the barrel, WW2 pilot style.

And a question of art- Is it too much to get a red, black-banded feedneck, and have a "blood drip" coming from the feedneck to the base of the gun? Or would the Angel silhouettes be better? Or are both too much?

I actually sorta wanted a white angel feather in a small pool of red, but its a difficult concept to simplify for anno.

Sweet design! Let us know how it turns out!

Very nice. I am assuming you used inventor for doing the cuts etc...

Yup. I love Inventor... 7th grade, we were using 2, and I've used 4, 6, 8, 9, 10, and 11, and now have 2008 on my laptop. One could say I'm familiar with it.

Yeah, I have Inventor 2008. I really dislike it though as I am unhappy that it installs so many background services. They cause my system to become really unstable.

Yeah, something with the way I installed it made it ok for me... since it is a student download, I was able to not install several of the components, and just get Inventor. I don't have Vault or any of that junk running, and my new machine is FAST. Dual core with 2gb of ram, I think... I had my lil brother pick it out ;)

Nice work...

I really need to get a CNC Mill.

Yes, I was just looking at pricing for some entry level CnC systems. Prices are coming down for new gear.

You'll never run out of friends that need this and that done once you do get one...

That said, I wouldn't trade it for anything in the world, except a larger mill. :D

Exactly. I amost bought a small CNC mill....but then I started looking at the larger mills with tool changers and my price escallated from there......

May just try to get a Minimill in the 3-6K range

Sometime after college I'll probably step it up to a larger mill at some point. Maybe something like an Industrial Hobbies CNC, or something like a Tormach. Hell, maybe even find a good deal on a used Haas VM-1 or something.

For now the Taig gets it done for me though...

How much does a Taig set ya back? I'm definitely itching to machine some stuff, but definitely have had not only my wallet but my mind stolen by good ol' Georgia Tech.

I see the prices for the mill itself, but how much is tooling, etc. What would I need other than a few endmills and ball mills? I think I might be able to scrape up as much as 3k if I work HARD this summer...

Oooh! Big news!
I'm home on Christmas break. My dad has a friend with some MILLS. Bridgeports large enough to make an engine block. My dad's given him a call. And I might be heading up his way Friday, to do a half-mill on my Tribal, maybe halfblock my cocker and... make the body and internals of a custom gun.

I'll be sure to post pics. My custom project is a crossbreed of a MQed 'cocker and a Hollowpoint bolted Ion, I suppose you could say... Runs off the same electronics as an MQed cocker, but dimensionally more similar to oh, a DM4. All inline, 1.25" dia with a .5" tray and whatever electro frame I can scrounge up. (Anyone have a Promaster frame? It would be nice and easy for me to work with... but I'm low on cash, or I would buy a whole Promaster and rob it of frame and 'noid.)
