OK sold the fusion and got a nice laptop just wondering if anyone here knew a bit about mobile internet..
Only thing I know about is using a cell phone as my modem and hooking it up.. problem is my current cell doesn't act as a modem.. (I may get one that does If i must)
I know cingular and such has laptop cards but IDK if that's just to boost my current wireless range or if it's like a digital internet (like on cellphones)
I'm looking to get something to make this completely mobile internet not just the hotspot stuff.. I have wifi and blue tooth already

If you're wanting to do that, I know verizon has cards that plug directly into the pcmia or usb to act as a modem. I would suggest against cingular's EDGE network. Everything I've heard says its only good if you do no multimedia and you absolutely must have internet everywhere. It's like 80 dollars a month for unlimited. My choice would probably be Verizon. For like 60 bucks you can get a card for free (I think) and up to 1.4 Mbps as opposed to the EDGE's 70Kbps. The only downside to the verizon is you have to get a 1 or 2 year contract I believe. But the best thing to do is get ahold of all of your local wireless providers and see which one has the best option for you. Good luck

Yeah I only use AT&T (Cingular).. seems they screw over a lot of people.. but my cousin works/worked (i think she moved) at one and we never have had any problems
I went by today and checked it out they have highspeed now and the cards are $160 with a $100 rebate they have really improved it thats for sure lol and it's 59.99 a month for completely unlimited of course a 2 year contract but I'm having it added onto our phone so no problem there

Just say no to mobile wireless. Very expensive. You'd be better off stealing connection from locations that have a WiFi node.

What spitlebug said is true, unless you are going to use the hell out of it. Otherwise, I would recommend sprints wireless card if they are in your area.

I'd just use the wifi but no locations near so I can't.
I will be using it a lot that's why I specifically found mobile and I'm traveling back and forth a bit so It's going to make things more convenient for me since I wont have to plug into someones phone line which is annoying b/c dial up just doesn't get crap done.. I mean it's okay but I don't even get the 56k My max on a good day is 28.8k which really isn't letting me get my multimedia classes done since uploading the stuff to them is a major headache .. I have more reasons than one than just wanting it.. It would actually be useful.

Well, if you can justify the costs. It seems as though you have already committed. I would suggest going to a forum where there are more users with the technical/financial aspects covered.

I somewhat agree with Spitle...
Wireless Internet is expensive $50.00 per month, it is slower than Broadband, but is beneficial if you need it.
I use it for work, but I still don't think I use $50 worth a month, since I have a T1 at work and DSL at home. The only time I actually need it is when I am travelling.

Like I said our phonelines wont even give us dialup speeds and I will be travelling a bit pretty soon. I guess you woulld just have to be in my posistion to understand.
