This is my baby it's a 1997 Yamaha Banshee with about a 2001 motor in it.

I don't know if anyone here even knows much about them but I picked it up a month ago for $800 to rebuild.

When I got it he thought he had burnt up the rings on it, turns out he had put a regular metal head gasket in the brand new coolhad and also from the looks put the rings in wrong so it caused it to lose all compression (on a NEW build) He also had most of the original 1997 bottom end which I sold for a cheap $275 .. that brings me back down to $525!! for something I could sell for at least 1500 the way it sat!

I got it torn down now turns out after it sat coolant leaked into the cylinder and rusted them .. not locked up but enough to cause some damage. Re honed and matched to pistons $40 - new rings, gaskets, clutch cable, reeds, reed cages, and an aftermarket filter... comes out to $105

So I payed $800 for it.. sold some parts.. bought a lot of new parts.. and now I have $670 in it.. I have no recent pics because I'm in the middle of cleaning it up and putting it back together but I plan on getting some new plastics for it and a few other things but there it will be .. $1000 invested for something with a resale value of about $3000.

Has a Pro design coolhead, full fmf pipes/silencers, new rear wheels and kenda klaws, pro flow intake kit with soon to be a K&N filter.. Wesico pistons and rings.. dg front bumper....and of course my AC nerf bars. :D Everyone always said I'd never own one b/c used value around here for one in bad shape is about 2k and here i sit with one i rebuilt and will have 1000 tops in it with my new plastics and clean up...

And to Kaos.. Isn't it scary that I managed to total out a paintball gun and yet I have my hands into something like this? I'll probably hit sixth gear at 70mph and a wheel come off or something haha!

Hey, cool project! And yes, I'm surprised that after seeing how well you did with a paintball marker that you can tear down a quad and put it back together without blowing something up or someone losing digits & such. Congrats!!!! You may have found your nitche'..... *lol* :ThumbsU3:

:D well I learn something new everyday I have done pretty much EVERYTHING myself so far. I had a friend showing me the correct way to pull the pistons out and he did one and I did the other. I'm shopping for plastics right now and found a nice set, black rears and everything up front is blue with a skull and a tribal type design running down it onto the seat!! (also going to get the seat) so yeah this is pretty fun... and I still have a chance to blow something up it hasn't been started yet still waiting on my other set of rings for it to come in tomorrow.... duck and cover!!! Best thing is something like this could easily make me $2,000 profit.. ALMOST makes me want to sell it haha but I love this thing.. I hopped on my friends banshee pinned it and thought I was gonna die... gotta love a 2-stroke TWIN

Looks pretty sweet. So are you planning on selling it or you gonna keep that one and look for other projects?

As much as I would like to sell it and have $3k in hand (after it is finished of course) I love this thing.. I have wanted another fourwheeler for a long time and I guess when I'm needing my own car I may have to let it go and save for another one in the future.. but right now this baby isn't going anywhere unless I absolutely have to sell it but everything else I have would go before it does lol..

Here are the plastics I'm in the process of trying to buy from a guy.. I'm going to get the front and rear plastics along with the gas tank cover and the radiator cover.. and also the seat since the graphics go onto it... now I have to get them before someone decides to buy the complete bike lol..

No plastics some guy traded a nice 87(ish) camaro and $300 for his whole banshee.

lol.. yeah if I sold it that $3000 would be gone in like a month.. from the time I knew I was going to sell it till the time the money was actually spent I'd be looking around for a car. BUT NO SELLING!!... trying to find some decent plastic now b/c painting mine would look like crap IMO I see it done all the time it chips and flakes off within no time..
