Well I got Shifty's chrome BBT about a week ago, put it all together and it shot pretty nice. While I was cleaning up I saw a box of parts I had and remembered I had a Chaos board for a 2nd gen Freestyle. Well it took a little cutting and moving of stuff on the board but I got it into the BBT where the stock controller board normally goes.
I got the board and harness awhile back for $30 shipped so this was a pretty inexpensive upgrade. Now this ol BBT has all the firing modes these new markers have....

cool...glad it worked for you

Mmmmm.... just got thru trying to chrono the marker and I think the board/solenoid match up might not be compatible. The fps was low and erratic at best. I had other markers to chrono so I didn't spend too much time looking into the problem. Maybe later in the week I'll delve more into it, unless someone knows for sure if the elects that drive the noid in a Freestyle will not drive the Parker k4h01 noid?

It should drive the solenoid just fine. Chances are the solenoid itself is pooched or you have the dwell set far too low. FreeStyle noids use the same voltage and current draw as the K4H01's.

Cool to hear.... as you stated I might have had the dwell a little low. I re-set it to about 16ms, i'll find out tomorrow.

A dwell of 16ms would cause your marker to be relatively inefficient. It may fix any problems with a sluggish 'noid though.

What's the stock dwell on a Tribal? I know that 12 ms is stock with a Bushmaster and 10ms for a ProMaster so I would imagine that a Tribal should be set around those lines...

*LOL*..... the stock settings for a Tribal are between 14-21ms

Jeeees....

That's a crazy dwell. Might I ask what the diameter of a stock Tribal piston is?

D@mn... you would ask something like that. I can't remember off the top of my head and I still have unpacked boxes of stuff from 2 moves ago. I know Warped knows, maybe even Shifty. I'll do a quick look tomorrow and see if I can find that info.
But I'm thinking the hammers on the Tribal rams are much heavier that on the Bushys so it takes alot to push 'em.

Yes the stock Bushmaster ram shaft and hammer assembly is only 40.1g and uses a piston diameter of 0.436". I have sort of come to the conclusion that the ideal piston diameter for a ram/hammer combo is actually 3/8".

So you think the ideal size needs to be smaller than what the Bushy is? Wont that require you to need an xtra ms or 2 on the dwell then?

You would imagine so, but in all reality the speed of the ram is primarily determined by how fast you can deliver air to the back of the piston and the pressure of said air. I believe the Tribal ram is somewhat flawed in the respect.
