View Full Version : Measuring the TILPR

I have one of Edwin's gauges to measure the output of an LPR (the gauge with the dual barbs). Well, I want to adjust the TILPR on my Mephy, and I don't see any way to use that gauge to adjust the TILPR. Any suggestions on how to use a gauge to do that?

AFAIK, the dual barb LPR setup is for MicroRock and 'Cocker LPR adapters which use hosing. IMHO, the best way to measure any LPR is to use a ram gauge. That way you know the pressure reaching the ram as opposed to the output of the LPR itself.

That sounds cool, except for one thing...where do I get and how do I use a ram gauge?

I am not sure they make ram gauges specifically for Tribals. I didn't see one on Edwin's page...
Typically it is just a ram shaped cylinder that slots in where your ram goes and the pressure that goes into the ram gauge (the pressure that would move the ram to a resting position) is measured. You can then adjust the LPR some, give the marker a few cycles to register the pressure changes and either adjust the LPR again until you reach the desired psi.
This is also handy for checking LPR consistency, though one would need a good gauge for that.
The B2K LPR gauge I have (made by Mac Dev) has a very nice fluid filled gauge and it is accurate to 2%. So that means it is (+/-) 2 psi per 100psi input. Typically your standard Ashcroft gauges (the 1.5" dial faces) are good to (+/-) 5% total over the face so at a range of 200psi it could be out as much as 10psi which is enough to skew results some.

Well if you had a spare ram I guess you could dill out the back, tap it, install a gauge on that. Probably need a 1/2- 3/4" brass extension so the gauge would not contact back of body.

It'd take a little more than that. You need to separate both sides of the ram air from each other and you'd need to vent the forward acting air to allow a full recharge to reset the gauge and adjust the LPR output.

some one made ram gauges for tribals at one time.. brandon down at bastion used to have one.. may still have it for that matter.. but I have no clue where he got it from..

MacDev also made one for the Tribal. I have one and it works great, though I need to replace the gauge on it with a nice fluid filled one. The one one there now has taken a beating through the years.
