Summertime is always a good time for sampling new beverages.... and since everyday in sunny Az is like summertime I've tried several new beverages. Edwin knows that my absolute favorite beer is he stuff he brought to D-day that first year. I've since tried to find something similar (either domestic or import) and have had little success. Probably the best was a German draw they served at the Hoaf Brau House in Las Vegas.... not too full bodied, kinda different for a German bier. When we went to Hawaii I think we tried every "umbrella" drink on the list.... MaiTai, Lava-flow, Chi-Chi, etc. But we still cam back to a solid favorite, Rum&Coke. With all the different rums out there it's hard not to find one that's perfect. I'm not a huge wine drinker but being a native Californian it's sort of born into you, ya know. I did run across a nice label called Black Swan from Australia... not bad and not expensive.
On the flip side someone talked me into trying an IPA (Inda Pale Ale)... I bought a 6pak of it and it's definitely an acquired taste. You Guinness drinkers might like it.
Other than that I've been putting away a lot of bottled water. Like Oklahoma, Arizona is much easier on those that stay hydrated.....

Not a beer drinker in the least (I like to have bread with my sandwiches, not in a glass, thanks), but I do like a good rum & coke. To be honest, I usually go with a Vanilla Coke or A&W Creme Soda, as even cheap rums get help from the flavors in those two. Bacardi's Vanilla Rum is also my rum of choice, which just helps all around with the taste.

As for other drinks, the wife and I prefer Buttery Nipple shots (Irish Cream floated on butterscotch schnappes, one-to-one ratio in a shot glass) - tasty and deadly, you don't want to drink too many of them.

A good summer treat is the Evil Watermelon - take a watermelon (the bigger it is, the less saturated with alcohol and therefor more friendly it will be), cut a triangle plug out of the side (a long side, not an end), and then plug a bottle of peppermint schnappes, neck down, into the hole. Prop it up so that everything drains from the bottle into the watermelon over the period of a couple of days. After that, remove bottle, push plug back into hole (or wrap cling wrap over it), and put it into a fridge or deep freeze for another day or two. Deep freeze is really good for hot, hot summers, but fridge is acceptable. If you've got the room in the deep freeze for both 'melon and bottle, you can save yourself a couple of days by combining the cool-down phase with the inundation phase. Remove as close to the party as possible to preserve the chill. Cut a big chunk of rind away to make the 'melon into its own bowl, and let your party-goers scoop out what they want to eat with a bowl/cup and a fork. And I've seen people who have used other alcohols with their Evil 'Melons, I just prefer peppermint schnappes.

buttery nipples is awesome, although my friends and I use double size shot glasses so we can add a bit of vodka to them. If you like Buttery Nipples try a Blowjob, kinda similar. You're not allowed to use your hands when you have one, you have to pick the glass up with your mouth. Hence the name. Oh yeah, and cause there's whipped cream on top. Two other good similar drinks are a Nutty Irishman and a B-52.

Kaos, I'm glad you discovered IPA's but come on man, Guinness is completely different from an IPA! Although stouts and IPA's are both big, flavorful styles. But I know many people who like one style but not the other. You're right though it is an acquired taste, try maybe drinking a hoppy Pale Ale (Sweetwater 420?) every now and then and that way your next IPA will seem easier to drink. IPA's are one of my favorite styles, very enjoyable if you get into them and they go great with hot wings.

Hmmmm well I'm mostly a beer guy. A couple I've enjoyed recently are Weyerbacher Merry Monk (belgian-style trippel), Flying Dog Horndog (Barleywine) and Rogue's Imperial IPA.

We have quite a few micro breweries around my neck of the woods. My favourite as far as a "beer" would be Sleeman's Honey Brown Lager.

Second to that I like Warsteiner.

But, if I had a choice on any beverage it would be dark rum and coke.

I prefer Shock Top, spotted cow or any belgian wheat. Blue Moon is awful though.

And if you like rum, I have a $300 bottle that I acquired on my trip to puerto rico. Every barrel is aged over 30 years. Good god absolutely amazing! Its called Don something.
